I’ve had a few (very few) people ask me for help in formatting, uploading and performing other tasks for their books. So here’s a list of the services I can offer, with the rates I will charge. Never let it be said that I’m the best person in the world at any of this stuff, but I’m moderately adequate, and can make things happen in a decent time frame for a fair price. I am not a publisher, and right now have no firm plans to become one (but stranger things have happened).
Digital conversion – I will convert an MS Word, Pages or RTF file into files suitable for upload to Barnes & Noble, Apple and Amazon. I charge $50 – $150 per book, depending on length and level of formatting. I will only do novels or collections of poetry or prose at this time. I will not do books with graphics. This does not include any cover creation.
Cover Creation – $100-$500, depending on what we do. If you have a photo that just needs a little cropping and a title put on it, then it’ll be cheap. If you need me to hire a photographer or an artist, it’ll cost more.
Complete Amazon/Barnes & Noble upload – includes digital conversion, blurb creation and setting you up with PubIt! and Amazon’s Digital Text Platform. This is all stuff you could do yourself, but if you’re too busy or a little technophobic, I’ll do it for you. $100-$350, depending on how much time it takes and how many revision we go through.
This is not what I want to make into my job, just a listing of things that I can help you with if you need it. If you’re interested, email me at johnhartness AT gmail DOT com.
Now go buy a book!
